Rideshare to Bogus

Hey! Need a ride to Bogus?

Hey! Need a Ride to Bogus?
Welcome to the new Rideshare to Bogus program! It's sponsored by Valley Regional Transit, our regional public transportation provider/authority in the Treasure Valley.

Purpose: We'd like to make it easier for people to car-pool to Bogus Basin Mountain Recreation Area. Parking at Bogus can be challenging, and traffic is often congested, so it's always a good thing to car-pool . Plus, car-pooling reduces our carbon footprint, decreases wear and tear on vehicles left in the garage, and ultimately, it'll save you money! See more below.

We're launching the Rideshare to Bogus program this year on an experimental basis. We hope that it will be possible to increase carpool options for everyone, including seniors, people with disabilities and underserved populations. Let's all try to do our part.

Incentives: Be sure to document your activities on our scorecard for a chance to win awesome monthly prizes, such as a GoPRO HD video camera, or BCA Tracker avalanche beacon. Here are the contest rules. Please note that monthly prizes will not be awarded for December 2011 and January 2012 due to a lack of snow.

Just so you know: The Rideshare to Bogus program is restricted to people 18 years of age and older for liability reasons.

Tip: If you're looking for a ride, be sure to bring some gas money! Riders should expect to share expenses for fuel. $5 per rider is a suggested minimum donation for a round-trip ride.

Let's do it! How to get started?

Pick any of the following four options to get started:

1. Sign up to car-pool on the new Rideshare to Bogus web site. This is a super-cool site that's patterned after the Rideshare program for Lake Tahoe-area ski resorts. Search for people to car-pool with by age, gender, skier type (alpine skier, snowboarder, Nordic, "tele" skier), ability levels, smoking preference and more. Once you sign up for a ride on a certain date at a certain time, you'll receive emails from people offering rides on the same date and time. Pick a place to meet and go.

2. Sign up on the Idaho Rideshare website, post a date and time when you would like to find riders or when you need a ride to Bogus, and the ridesharing site will try and find a match for you.

3. Become a fan of the Rideshare to Bogus Facebook page and offer rides to Facebook friends or request rides on the page. Facebook profiles help discover more about people you might be riding with.

4. Join the Rideshare to Bogus Yahoo group and offer or request rides to Bogus. Watch for fellow Yahoo users whom you may already know from the other Yahoo groups.

Here's one other option -- take the bus! The Caldwell Bus Company offers bus transportation to Bogus Basin from a wide variety of locations throughout the Treasure Valley on weekends. Click here for the ski bus schedule.

Where to meet?

Carpoolers should pick a place to meet that's mutually convenient for the driver and riders. Please use common sense and avoid private parking lots reserved for business customers.

The official Bogus Basin FREE Park & Ride lot is located at 11th & Bannock in downtown Boise. This is available on weekends only. Do NOT park and car-pool from the Highlands Village parking lot (2600 Bogus Basin Road) or your car will be towed.

Here is a listing of ValleyRide's Park & Ride lots in the Treasure Valley. Car-poolers should feel free to use these lots for a meeting place with fellow skiers and snowboarders.

Why car-pool?

In a survey conducted by the Community Planning Association of Southwest Idaho (COMPASS) last summer, nearly half of the respondents, or about 500 people, said they would carpool to Bogus Basin if they had more friends to carpool with.

There are several advantages:

  • Car-pooling to Bogus reduces traffic on Bogus Basin Road.
  • Car-pooling conserves parking space at Bogus Basin.
  • Reducing the number of vehicles on the road improves air quality and reduces our carbon footprint.
  • Car-pooling decreases fuel consumption and reduces wear-and-tear on your vehicle.
  • Ultimately, car-pooling saves money for drivers, and it can make the trip safer for everyone.

Think of the benefits of not having to worry about driving up to Bogus on a snowy day with a poor set of tires!

Feedback: Send us feedback on how the Rideshare program works for you.

Thanks! Have fun! We hope the Rideshare to Bogus program helps everyone meet a few new friends this winter season and better yet, allows some people the chance to enjoy skiing for the first time in a long time.
